Had to replace the hard drive in my grandpa's old PC... took 6 hours for something I thought would be quick

So I found this old Dell desktop from 2009 in his basement. He wanted me to pull off some family photos. I figured 30 minutes tops. Nope. First the screws were stripped, then Windows wouldn't boot even with a fresh drive. Ended up spending 6 hours messing with BIOS settings and old IDE cables. The hype around old tech being easy to fix is such a lie. Anyone else find that vintage hardware becomes a whole day project instead of a quick job?

Prying the IDE cable loose without breaking the pins was honestly the trickiest part for me.

Totally feel you on that one. Those old IDE ribbons were the worst, felt like you'd either snap the plastic or bend a pin no matter how careful you were. Always held my breath every time I had to swap a hard drive back then.
