I finally compared two grooming scissors and one was a total game changer

I always used the same cheap shears I bought off Amazon for $30, figured scissors were scissors. Then a rep at a grooming expo in Orlando last March handed me a pair of Kenchii shears to try on a poodle mat. The difference was insane - they cut through the hair in one smooth slice instead of me having to chop three times. Has anyone else had a tool that just made their job way easier after sticking with junk for too long?

Yeah that's not quite right, those Kenchii shears are good but the real game changer for most groomers I talk to is actually the curved shears vs straight ones. A good set of curved shears makes shaping way easier than any fancy brand name does.

I've been grooming for close to 18 years now @mileslane, and I have to say I'm not sure it's that big of a deal. I switched to curved shears about five years back and honestly, they're nice for certain things but I still use my straight shears just as much. Maybe I'm just set in my ways, but a good groomer can make almost any tool work if they know what they're doing. The real trick is keeping them sharp, not the shape of the blade. I've seen people spend a fortune on fancy curves and still produce lumpy haircuts. It's more about practice and patience than swapping out your whole toolkit.

I've been at this for about 15 years myself and I totally agree with you on the sharpness thing. I had a mentor who used to say a $50 pair of properly maintained shears beats a $500 pair that's been dropped on the floor three times. I'll admit, curved shears did help me clean up around the face and paws quicker, but I still grab my straights for 80% of the body work. The biggest change for me was actually getting a decent sharpener who comes by every 6 weeks, not the shape of the blade. I've watched newbies buy three different curved shears thinking that's the cheat code, but they're still fighting the dog and leaving choppy lines because they haven't put in the hours yet.
