My nephew asked if the 'Charlie Bit My Finger' kids are rich now, and I had to look it up
My 11 year old nephew brought up that old Charlie Bit My Finger video at dinner on Sunday and asked if that family is living on easy street now. I remembered they sold the video as an NFT for like $760k back in 2021, so I said probably yes, and he just nodded like that made total sense. Then I actually looked it up later and read they only got around $100k from the original ad money over the years, and the dad said the fame was mostly just weird. Funny how a clip that got almost 900 million views didn't turn into a real payday for over a decade. Anybody else here follow what happened to those one hit viral families after the checks stopped coming?
Wow, I always assumed those viral families were set for life and this totally flips that for me. I figured 900 million views had to mean millions in the bank, but nope, most of that old YouTube ad money was pretty small back then. The NFT sale was a one time thing too, so that 760k probably got split up and taxed and didn't stretch as far as people imagine. Hearing the dad say the fame was mostly just weird kind of makes sense now, since being known for one clip doesn't pay the bills forever.
