Spent $200 on a viral TikTok cleaning tool I saw everywhere
Everyone was raving about that scrubber attachment for your drill, so I grabbed one. It stripped the finish off my kitchen counter after 30 seconds of use. Has anyone else tried these things and had a different result?

...and then I made the exact same mistake on our bathroom tile grout. That heavy duty pack is a total scam for anything delicate. Best tip I can give after learning the hard way: use the soft white brush head only, and keep the drill speed on low setting. Also test it on a hidden spot first, I know it feels dumb but it saved my bathroom mirror from getting scratched up.

Stripped the finish off my kitchen counter" looks like a direct quote from my own tombstone honestly. I did the exact same thing with that drill scrubber, except my counters are laminate so now I have a lovely two-tone effect going on. What's worse is I thought I was being smart by buying the "heavy duty" 20 dollar pack with all the different brush heads. Turns out heavy duty just means "faster destruction." My wife still brings it up at dinner parties, calls it the counter genocide of 2024.

Counter genocide of 2024" is getting added to my personal vocabulary immediately, I love that. I did something similar with a "magic eraser" sponge on our stainless steel fridge, except my version of genocide was more of a slow, gentle murder that took the finish down to a matte nightmare over like a week. My husband still gives me the look every time we open the fridge, like I personally attacked the appliance with sandpaper instead of trying to clean a single sticky spot.
