Talking to my cousin who was briefly a TikTok star made me see things differently

He said the weirdest part wasn't losing followers, but how his old friends still expected him to be 'on' all the time. Anyone else know someone who couldn't switch off after their 15 minutes were up?

My buddy Mike had this happen back in 2012 when his Vine account blew up for a week. He was making those stupid six second loops of him trying to eat a whole onion, not exactly high art. After it died down his buddies at the bar would still hand him their phones and say "do the thing" like he was a trained monkey. Mike finally snapped at this one guy named Dave and said "I'm not a jukebox, I just eat weird food for laughs." It took him a solid year before people stopped bringing up the onion thing at parties. I guess some folks just can't let go of that one time you were briefly entertaining.

Wow, that's rough. Did his friends ever realize they were doing that, or did they just keep treating him like a free show?

Sounds like his friends were the real subscribers.
