The 'just post daily' advice I kept hearing turned out to be half true

I used to think consistency was everything for a YouTube channel. After a 6 month grind posting daily shorts, I had 200 subs and zero momentum. Then a buddy who runs a fishing channel told me to focus on making one really good weekly video instead. My last upload got 4k views in 3 days, which is huge for me. Anyone else find that quality beat quantity when you finally tried it?

My buddy Alex made a song for his kid last year, posted it on a Tuesday, and now it's at 2 million plays. Meanwhile his daily shorts get maybe 200 views if he's lucky.
