TIL that the metal straw craze did nothing for long-term waste

When everyone was buying metal straws, it felt like a win for the planet. Now, I find them stuffed in junk drawers, never used. My local shops actually threw out more plastic after the trend faded because they stocked extra. This quick fix let people think they solved the problem without real action. Lasting change needs better rules on plastic production, not just swaps. So, the hype might have even slowed progress by making us complacent. Viral moments come and go, but trash stays around for years.

Stuffed in junk drawers" is so real, my collection is proof I fell for the trend hard. Guess my good intentions are just collecting dust now.

Honestly "stuffed in junk drawers" hits home. I was cleaning out my kitchen cabinets last week and found a fancy pour-over coffee setup I bought in 2020. The whole thing was still in the box, filters and all, just buried behind a stack of plates. Tbh my good intention to become a coffee snob just turned into a dusty monument to a phase.

Our homes are just museums for abandoned phases.
