A late-night forum debate flipped my stance on AI art ownership

I was sure artists should control all uses of their style in AI tools. Watching a streamer build a portfolio with generated pieces changed my mind about access. Is it possible that loose rules might fuel more art overall?

Yeah I get that shift completely lol. Saw someone on Twitch last week who never drew before make these amazing character sheets with AI, and they were so pumped to start learning actual drawing after. Like, if we lock this down too tight, we might accidentally gatekeep people who just need that first spark, you know? Hard to stay mad about that kind of access.

AI breaking down art gates could bring in amazing new talent.

But that example of the Twitch streamer getting excited to learn drawing after using AI is just one story. It does not always work out that way for everyone. Some people might use AI and never try to learn the real art skills. Loose rules can help new people start making art, but they can also take away from artists who worked hard for years. If AI uses styles without asking, artists might feel used and stop sharing their work. Finding a fair middle ground is key so that both new and skilled artists can grow.
