Admitted I was wrong about AI art devaluing my work

A client hired me to illustrate their kids book then ran the sketches through an AI upscaler and wanted a refund because my final line art looked too similar to the generated version. I spent 2 hours explaining the difference between my process and their prompt. Has anyone else had a client confuse your actual work with AI output?

Man that is so frustrating to deal with lol. I feel for you, because this keeps happening more and more now with clients who don't really get what goes into drawing vs. just typing a prompt. It's like they think pressing a button makes them an artist, and it's disrespectful to the hours you put into that line art. You shouldn't have to defend your whole process to someone who doesn't even understand the basics of how your tools work. Hope that client eventually came around or you moved on to better ones who actually appreciate real skill.

Did you watermark your sketches before sending them?

Real artists have always had to defend their craft, but this AI stuff makes a whole new kind of disrespect.
