Debate: Is AI art actually cheaper than hiring an artist? My experiment.

I needed a quick logo for a small meetup I'm running in Portland. I spent $15 on a month of Midjourney and got something passable after 2 hours of tweaking prompts. Then I quoted a freelance artist friend who said she'd charge $250 for a custom logo. The AI version saved money but felt generic, while her work had real character. Is the cost savings worth the loss of originality, or do we just need to accept AI for low-stakes projects like this? What do you all think?

The generic AI logo fits a meetup just fine since nobody's paying attention to it anyway.

Kinda reminds me of when I tried to save money making my own workout posters with a free design app. Spent three hours on it and it still looked like a high school project - sometimes the time you spend is worth more than the money you save.

Remember when I painted my own coffee mugs for a party and the paint washed off before anyone even drank from them.
