Hit 200 AI generated portraits in my portfolio and felt sick, so I counted how many were traced off real artists
I went through all 200 last month and found 61 that clearly copied a specific living artist's style, some down to the exact brush stroke pattern. These tools scraped DeviantArt and ArtStation without asking, and now those artists are competing against their own work at $5 a pop. If your model can't tell you which artists it learned from, why should anyone act like the output is clean?

Style copying has been part of art forever though. People studied under masters, copied their moves, then found their own thing. The real problem you're pointing at isn't style theft, it's speed and price. A human copying someone's style still takes hours per piece, so it never really killed that artist's market. AI does it in seconds at scale, and that part is genuinely new.
