My cousin swore that AI 'just learns like a person' and then I showed him the 400 watermarks baked into one image
My cousin keeps telling everyone at family dinners that AI art is basically the same as a human studying other painters, and last Saturday I finally pulled up a generator on my phone at his kitchen table in Toledo and asked it for a simple robot drawing. Three of the six images came back with smeared signature blobs and watermark fragments in the corners, and one had a weird half logo that looked like it got scraped off ArtStation. He went quiet because you can see the pixels where somebody else's name used to be, which means the model ate that person's upload and spat it back out with the name half erased. That's not learning, that's copying with extra steps. Has anyone else found obvious leftover signatures in stuff they generated, or is it just the free tools doing this?
Man, the watermark thing is wild but I keep wondering how much math the guy on the other end of that "simple" prompt even understands, since half of AI art is just guessing at what looks right and calling it done. Your cousin probably thought it was studying that painter's style when it was really memorizing where they signed their name.
