PSA: I used to grab random art off Google for my band's flyers and told myself it was fine
Back in 2021 I made like 14 flyers for local shows in Phoenix and pulled most of the art straight from image search. Then a guy I know who draws posted a side by side of his own piece next to a flyer where somebody cropped his signature off, and my stomach dropped because I had done the same thing twice. The tip off was how quiet he got when I said "well it's just a flyer, nobody's selling it," like he had heard that exact line a hundred times. I still feel gross about it and now I just pay a friend $40 a poster or use my own bad photos. Curious if anyone here has a rule for what counts as fair use for small local stuff or if I was just wrong the whole time?
