PSA: One art director's comment made me ditch AI completely
Last month I submitted a piece to a local gallery in Portland and the director said my shadows looked 'like a diffusion model guessed them.' I was SO embarrassed. I realized my ai-assisted work had this uncanny lighting thing that people can spot. Now I sketch everything by hand and only use reference photos I take myself. Has anyone else had a specific comment that made you rethink your process?

That line about shadows looking like a diffusion model guessed them is brutal but honest. My friend Carla had a similar wake up call when a photographer told her the reflections in her digital painting "didn't respect the physics of glass." She said she felt like she'd been caught cheating on a test. She ended up taking a weekend workshop on traditional still life painting just to learn how light actually bounces off different surfaces.

Ugh, that comment about the glass reflections hits hard! I know @xena582 would get it because my own moment was when someone said my textures looked "too clean like they were rendered instead of painted." It took me actual months to stop relying on that polished AI look and learn to embrace messy, uneven brushwork again.
