TIL a local gallery quietly pulled an AI piece after a complaint

I was at a small gallery opening in Austin last week, and they had this digital piece that looked like a watercolor. The artist bio just said 'exploring new mediums'. A friend who knows the scene whispered that it was made with a popular AI image tool, and the gallery owner hadn't told anyone. Sure enough, by this weekend, the piece was gone. I asked a worker, and they said an actual watercolor artist who shows there saw it, recognized the style quirks, and made a big deal about it not being disclosed. It makes me wonder how many places are doing this now, just hoping no one notices. It feels like a trust thing more than anything. Has anyone else seen a gallery or shop try to pass off AI work without saying so?

My buddy runs a print shop and we had a long talk about this after a client tried to pass off a Midjourney piece as their own illustration. The key is to just ask the gallery staff, point blank, about the process and materials. Most honest places will tell you, and the ones that get squirrely are a red flag. It forces some transparency without you having to be the expert. I'd also check if the artist has any other work online, because AI-only folks usually have a very thin portfolio.

Right? It's getting so common. I saw the exact same thing at a diner downtown. The person just left their trash all over the booth and walked out. The staff looked totally fed up. Makes you not want to go back to those places.
