Watched a friend's art commission vanish after an AI prompt went viral on Twitter
She spent 40 hours on a custom portrait for a client, but the client saw an AI version of the same idea for free and canceled the payment. Has anyone else seen a drop in commission work since those AI image generators blew up last year?

Cancelling a commission mid-work should still mean paying for those 40 hours.

40 hours of work down the drain is insane! They'd be lucky to get even a fraction of that back if they took it to small claims court.

Lol that's rough but honestly one story doesn't prove the whole industry is dying. I've seen plenty of artists still getting regular commissions and even raising their prices last year. The AI thing is annoying but most clients who actually care about art still want the real human touch and the unique style you can't get from a prompt. I think people freak out way too fast over a few viral tweets.
