A homeowner's simple question made me rethink how I wire door contacts

Last month I was finishing a install in a ranch house outside Columbus and the owner asked why I put the contact on the top of the door frame instead of the side. I gave the usual answer about less tampering risk, but he pushed back and said his last system had false alarms from the door sagging over time. I checked the gap and sure enough, the top was the better call here because the frame was settling. Since then I look at every door's condition before choosing the contact spot. Has anyone else had a customer question something basic that turned out to be the right idea?

Man, I once mounted one so crooked the homeowner thought I was aiming for the wall!
