Apartment complex job taught me about deadbolts
Last month I was doing a install at a big complex in Phoenix. Manager told me to wire the deadbolt to auto-unlock on fire alarm. I said no way, that's a code violation in most places. She pushed back hard. Called the city inspector to be sure. He confirmed I was right. Now I always check local fire codes before tying any lock to alarm.

Man, I mean maybe that manager was just trying to keep people from getting trapped inside.

Nah, @keith274 I get what you're saying but that doesn't really hold up. The fire alarm went off way before anyone was in danger, so blocking the doors just made people panic more. If anything, trapping people inside would be way worse than letting them get out.
