Just realized I've been crimping my RJ31X jacks wrong for years

Tbh, a whole panel in a new install in Fresno went dead last week because of a bad crimp on the main line. I was using the wrong die in my tool and didn't even know it. Anyone got a favorite brand of modular crimper that actually works for the 8P8C on alarm cable?

...that eighth pin is the whole reason I switched to pass-through RJ45 jacks for the alarm stuff too. Even with a good crimper, that last pin can get bent or not seat fully and you won't catch it until the system acts up. I started checking each jack with a continuity tester after I spent three hours chasing a ground fault that was just a bad crimp on pin 8. It adds a step but saves me from the embarrassment of calling the homeowner back...

Grab a Klein VDV226-110 if you can. The dies are marked and it actually seats the pins all the way. I've re-crimped so many jacks where the tool just didn't push the eighth pin down enough. That Fresno story sounds familiar... spent a whole afternoon once tracing a fault back to one bad connector.

My old boss in Phoenix used to test every eighth pin with a jeweler's loupe.

Yeah, that eighth pin is the worst.
