Just realized my old panel finally gave up after 22 years
Went out on a service call last Thursday for a system that wasn't arming. Turned out the main board had a cracked solder joint near the transformer, probably from years of humidity in that basement. Anyone else running into older panels developing odd faults that aren't the typical sensor issues?

Mileslane acting like one bad joint means the whole panel is doomed lol. I've seen cracked solder joints get resoldered and run fine for years after, it's not always a death sentence. A lot of these older panels are built tougher than people give them credit for.

Every time something hits 20+ years I start watching for these tiny weird failures that don't follow the usual rules. It's not just alarm panels either, I've got an old truck with original wiring and the same thing happens when the insulation gets brittle or a connector just decides to stop making contact for no reason. Resoldering can get you more time but there's something to be said for knowing when the whole board is tired and ready to retire. That transformer joint failing first makes perfect sense since it sees the most temperature change and vibration over the years. Sometimes a quick fix buys you another couple years but other times it's like putting a bandaid on a wound that's already scarred over.
