My old lead in Cincinnati said to label every zone, and last Tuesday I paid for skipping it
Last Tuesday I was swapping out a 16 zone panel in a house over on Oakley and I pulled the old wiring without tagging anything, thinking I would remember where each zone went. I got 9 of them back right but the back door and the garage motion were crossed, so the keypad showed zone 6 when the door opened and the customer called me twice that night. My old lead back in Cincinnati used to make us write each zone on masking tape before we touched a screw, and I quit doing it once I got fast. Now I'm sitting here with a label maker, so how do you all keep track when you're pulling wire out of a mess you didn't install?
Two zones crossed out of 16 isn't a labeling problem, it's a you got lucky problem. I've done the masking tape thing for 15 years and it still beats trying to remember anything when the attic is 120 degrees.
