Saw a 30 second clip from a fire marshal in Toledo that killed my go to detector placement
I have been putting smokes right over the panel door for almost 9 years because that is where the old timers pointed me. This guy pulled up a chart from NFPA 72 and said anything within 3 feet of a supply vent can get pushed away from the sensing chamber on a slow smolder. Now I am walking every can back to the corner, has anyone else caught grief from a builder over moving them?
That line about the slow smolder getting pushed away from the sensing chamber is the part that got me too, because it makes total sense once you picture the airflow. I had a builder tell me last spring that I was making his drywall guys come back for nothing, but he stopped arguing after the inspector backed me up. You are doing the right thing walking them back, just keep the chart handy on your phone.
