Showerthought: I was in a crawl space in Phoenix and my drill battery died right as I started the last hole for a motion sensor bracket.
Had to crawl all the way back out, swap it at the truck, and crawl back in, which took about 20 minutes and made me miss my lunch break, so has anyone found a good way to carry a spare battery without it getting full of dust and grit down there?

Why even bother with a spare? That's just more junk to haul around and lose. A good drill on a full charge should handle a whole day of bracket holes, so maybe the real problem is not checking your gear before you crawl in.

Read a case where a backup drill saved a whole job after a charger failed.

Feel your pain, that exact thing happened to me last summer. Crawl spaces are the worst for that kind of bad luck. I started keeping a spare battery in one of those cheap canvas tool belt pouches, the kind with a flap. It keeps most of the dust out and clips right on so I don't have to think about it. Still adds a little bulk but it beats a twenty minute crawl of shame any day.
