That cheap drill bit set cost me a whole day last week
I bought a $20 kit of titanium bits off Amazon because I'm a cheapskate. First hole into a metal the box for a Vista panel, the bit snapped clean off. Spent 4 hours driving back and forth to the supply house to get a proper $8 DeWalt bit. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way and have a go-to brand that actually lasts?

Man, that $20 Amazon titanium set got me too one time. The bits looked all flashy in the package but they snapped quicker than a cheap lollipop. @mason_reed47 I hear you on being careful, but I've put a DeWalt bit through hell and back without a single crack. That one bad experience cost me half a Saturday and a new respect for buying the right tool the first time around. You get what you pay for, at least with drill bits.

Yeah I kinda disagree here. I've been using those cheap Amazon sets for years and they work fine for most stuff. Maybe you just got a bad one or were pushing too hard on that first hole. The $8 DeWalt bits are good but I've snapped those too if you're not careful.

lol is it really that deep though? I mean yeah a bit snapping sucks but a whole day wasted sounds like you made a bigger deal out of it than you had to. I've snapped plenty of bits over the years and just grabbed another one from the drawer and kept going.
