Man, I used to be the guy who just swapped the part and moved on, figured that was the fix and called it done. After reading stuff like this I started actually testing the circuit first before I touch anything, because jumping stuff out is how you end up chasing ghosts for an hour. That nine dollar battery turns into a fried board real quick when somebody gets lazy.
