Totally get the barter system for small jobs. Honestly just being willing to show up with tools does half the work. My go-to move is to never ask for anything upfront, but people almost always offer something cool afterwards, like a batch of cookies or help with my own yard. It feels way better than a cash transaction somehow. That neighborly trade just builds up good will for next time.
