Got a call for a 20 year old Maytag Neptune that wouldn't drain

I mean, I haven't seen one of those in a shop for a good five years. The pump was totally seized, and the replacement part number is discontinued now. Had to tell the customer in Oak Park that a full repair wasn't really an option anymore. Anyone else finding these older units are just becoming parts donors at this point?

Those old Neptunes are basically scrap metal now.

Yeah I was just reading about this actually. Someone posted a breakdown of how Neptune's older models basically have a shelf life of like 5-7 years before the internal components start corroding or failing. They said the insulation they used back then just didn't hold up to humidity. It's not even a matter of trying to fix them, the parts are discontinued and nobody makes replacements anymore. So yeah scrap metal is probably the most accurate description for most of them now.
