Just spent 3 hours on a fridge that had a bad door switch
I was working on a Whirlpool side-by-side that wouldn't light up inside. I checked the control board, the lights, everything. Turns out the little plastic plunger on the door switch had snapped off, so it always thought the door was closed. I had to take the whole top trim off to even see it. Has anyone else had a simple part like that eat up a whole morning?

Three hours though? I've seen that switch fail before. It's a five minute fix once you find it. You just pop the old one out and push a new one in. Seems like taking the whole trim off might have been overkill. Could have probably fished it out with some needle nose pliers.

You ever tried fishing one of those out on a newer model? Honestly, the clips are super brittle now. Tbh, I broke two trying to pry it from the front last time. Ended up having to take the panel off anyway to get all the plastic bits out. Sometimes the full teardown is faster than messing around.

Gotta disagree with you there, Jordan. Those clips snap if you even look at them wrong these days, especially on the 2021 and up models... tried the needle nose trick once and ended up scratching the hell out of the bezel. Took me longer to fix that scratch than just pulling the trim would've been. Sometimes the easy way ain't the fast way.
