Serious question, why is everyone around here pushing DIY fixes for major appliances?

In my town, I keep hearing folks say they can handle any repair themselves after watching online videos. I strongly disagree because some jobs, like dealing with fridge compressors or oven elements, really need a trained hand to avoid safety issues. Do you see this trend in your communities too, and how do you address it?

Seriously, overconfidence kills appliances. That compressor story is exactly why some jobs need a pro. People forget electricity and gas can really hurt you.

Ever hear a story that makes you cringe? My buddy tried fixing his fridge compressor after watching one video. He messed up the coolant lines, which not only broke the whole unit but also voided the warranty. Ended up paying way more for a new fridge than a pro repair would've cost. Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know, you know?

He actually touched the coolant lines?
