That HVAC guy in Des Moines made me rethink my whole diagnostic flow

Was swapping a condenser fan motor last Tuesday and the homeowner's HVAC buddy was hanging around. He watched me meter out the cap, check the windings, pull the relay, the whole nine yards. Then he just says "you're checking parts, not looking for the why." Said he's seen three units this summer where the motor died because the run cap was mounted too close to the heat exchanger and nobody bothered to relocate it. Made me realize I spend half my time replacing the same parts over and over instead of fixing the actual cause. Anyone else ever had a moment like that where someone outside your trade pointed out something obvious you were missing?
