That one customer who watched me fix their dryer for 2 hours
Had a call last Thursday in Arlington. Old Maytag dryer, no heat. Turned out the thermal fuse and the heating element both were shot. Customer stood right over my shoulder the whole time. Asked a question every 30 seconds. At first I was annoyed. But then he started handing me tools before I asked. Knew the model number off the top of his head. Told me his wife bought it in 1987 and they raised three kids on it. When I finished, he shook my hand and said 'you saved our dryer, not me.' Gave me a $60 tip. Has anyone else had a customer that actually helped instead of hovering?

That "you saved our dryer, not me" line got me. That says everything about the kind of guy he was. Most folks just stand there and treat you like a robot with a wrench. Getting handed tools before you even ask is a whole different level of trust. Sounds like you earned that tip twice over.
