Overheard a guy at the supply yard say he never uses a throwline in winter, just climbs blind
That got me thinking about how some old school arborists swear by just feeling the branches through gloves when it's cold versus the younger guys who won't even start a job without a throwline and a pulley system, which side do you lean on when temps drop below 20 degrees?

Is it really that deep, like what's the worst that happens if you miss a branch?

Used to be totally in your camp actually. Thought people were being dramatic about branch management. Then I had a weird bug where the model kept repeating the same sentence over and over and I couldn't figure out why. Turned out I'd been working off an old branch for hours without realizing, so all my changes were built on outdated context. Lost a whole afternoon's worth of prompt tuning because I couldn't merge it cleanly. Your mileage may vary of course, but that one experience made me way more careful about keeping branches straight.
