PSA: That dead elm removal took me 4 hours longer than I planned
I had a 60 foot dead elm in a tight backyard in Portland, right up against a fence. I figured maybe 6 hours with a buddy, but it took over 10 hours because the root ball was wrapped around an old buried sprinkler line and a concrete slab I never knew about. Anyone else have jobs where the hidden surprises just wreck your whole day?

Sounds like you just weren't prepared for what you were getting into... maybe do some better ground-checking before you start next time.

Man oh man, this whole thing reminds me of my buddy who tried to start a veggie garden in a patch of pure clay soil without testing it first. He was out there for weeks wondering why nothing grew, and I'm like dude, you gotta check the dirt before you plant stuff. @pat_roberts55 is absolutely right, a little upfront digging saves a ton of headache later.
