The 25 foot pole saw failure that flipped my old timer advice

After that fiberglass pole saw snapped on a maple branch in Arlington last week, I finally get why the crew boss kept saying to treat the tool like a fishing rod, not a spear, so has anyone else switched to a telescoping carbon setup after a similar break?

Wait, I gotta stop you there. Carbon fiber poles break too, and when they go, they go ALL at once with no warning. Fiberglass at least bends and gives you a clue it's about to let go. I've watched a buddy snap a carbon extension ladder just by leaning it wrong, so the material isn't the magic fix. The real thing is the technique you mentioned, keep the top hand loose and let the pole flex, or you'll break anything eventually. Also, that "25 foot" spec usually means total reach with your arms, not the safe cutting zone, so that maple branch might've been past the sweet spot anyway.
