Hit 500 cataloged points on my local survey project and I sat down on a log for 20 minutes
Two years ago I started logging lithic scatter points from creek beds and eroding fields around central Ohio, just me, a beat up GPS unit from a pawn shop, and a notebook I keep in a ziploc. Last Saturday I entered number 500 into the spreadsheet and just stared at it, because I honestly figured I would quit around 50 like every other hobby I pick up. What got me was looking back at the first 100 entries and realizing half of them were probably natural rocks I misread, which means my real count is lower and my eye has gotten better without me noticing. I still cant tell a proper scraper from a broken flake half the time though, so if anyone out there has a trick for distinguishing debitage from geofacts, I would love to hear it.
