Hit 500 digs on a Roman site in Northumberland before lunch last Thursday

I was just brushing dirt off a pottery shard when my trowel hit something solid. Turned out to be a whole section of floor mosaic nobody knew was there. Has anyone else stumbled onto something way bigger than they expected during a routine dig?

Grant155 has a point, I probably got a bit carried away with the excitement. Next time I'll aim for a whole new city before lunch, but for now I'll settle for not tripping over my own trowel in front of the team.

Honestly, "way bigger than they expected" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. A floor mosaic is cool and all, but it's not like you uncovered a whole new city. Ngl, sounds like a solid day but maybe not quite the earth-shaking discovery you're making it out to be.
