Last Tuesday was THE worst dig day I've had in 12 years of field work

We were excavating a Roman site near Bath and I accidentally stepped into a hidden pit feature, sinking knee-deep into mud that RUINED my boots AND a bag of labeled sherds I was carrying. Has anyone else ever completely wrecked a day's worth of cataloging in one dumb moment?

Read that archaeologists call it "the curse of the Roman pit.

Man, that's brutal. A friend of mine was digging at a medieval site and tripped over their own trowel. They dropped a whole box of cleaned pottery shards and they shattered into even smaller pieces. Took them three days to sort it all out and figure out what was what.

You're not wrong... but maybe the universe was just trying to tell her those shards were already too broken to bother with. Hear me out... sometimes you gotta sort through the wreckage to find what really matters. She spent three days on that mess, but she probably found some pieces she never would have noticed otherwise. It's like the ground was doing her a favor by mixing everything up. And honestly, if you're gonna dig up ancient stuff, a little chaos just comes with the territory.
