Ha, you just described my entire approach to life! I'm the guy who'll buy 5 cheap leather journals from a street market rather than one nice one from a proper shop. Then I never write in any of them because I'm scared of ruining them. The "one versus many" thing hits different when you end up with a box of mediocre stuff you're too afraid to actually use. At least with coins you can look at them all at once. Me? I've got a drawer full of blank journals and zero meaningful thoughts to fill them with. Classic overthinker move right there.

Is it just me or does this kind of decision feel like it happens all the time in life, not just with old coins and swords? I mean you're basically choosing between something that's a bunch of small pieces versus one big, impressive piece. Like buying a bunch of really good books versus one expensive hardcover that you'll show off on your shelf. Or deciding between a collection of cool small souvenirs from a trip versus one big, meaningful painting. Idk, it's like you have to think about what you want more, the thrill of having lots of things or the impact of one standout item.

Read somewhere that collectors call it the "one versus many" dilemma, and it really hits home with stuff like travel souvenirs versus a single big purchase. Always second-guess myself after picking either option.
