Question about the new visitor path at the Cahokia Mounds site... did they really pave over that whole section?

Man, I feel you @felixlane. My back starts sending me angry memos if I'm on uneven ground for more than five minutes. Last time I tried a gravel trail, I was walking like I'd just gotten off a horse for a week. That smooth asphalt sounds like a dream for just being able to look at the mounds instead of staring at your feet the whole time.

The new asphalt path is about a quarter mile long and replaced the old gravel trail near Monks Mound.

That quarter mile of smooth asphalt is probably the only place my knees don't sound like a bowl of rice krispies when I walk. I tried the old gravel trail once and my ankles staged a full mutiny. This upgrade feels like it was made for people whose main sport is finding a good bench.

@the_viola said it's a quarter mile but that's plenty when your knees are talking back. Funny how a little patch of smooth ground can change your whole walk. Makes you wonder what else we've been making harder than it needs to be.
