Spent 2 hours in my backyard in Tucson last month thinking I found a spear point, it was a lawnmower blade chip
About a month ago I was digging out a drip line trench behind my shed in Tucson and pulled up this sharp flinty looking thing that I was sure was a point. I measured it, took photos, and even posted it in a rock ID group asking about age. Turned out the flinty edge was just a chip off an old mower blade that got buried when the yard was graded in the 90s. What got me was reading that most "arrowheads" people bring to museums are just rocks or junk, and actual finds are usually cataloged with exact dirt layers and coordinates, not just yanked out of a hole. Now I wonder how much of what I see on random forums is even from the ground it claims to be from. Has anyone here ever had a local museum look at something you found and tell you it was nothing?
