That $300 ground penetrating radar rental I booked for a field survey last spring

Thought I'd find hidden structures on a 19th century farmstead in Ohio. Wasted two days and got nothing but a bunch of roots and old drain pipes. Anyone else blow cash on fancy gear that just didn't deliver?

@harperp24 waited eight hours for a hubcap? That's some serious commitment to disappointment.

makes you wonder if those youtube videos are just showing the two good finds out of a hundred failures" - that's exactly what I figure every time I watch those "epic" treasure hunting videos. I heard about this guy who spent a whole summer with a metal detector on the same beach in Florida, found like 47 pull tabs and one silver ring. He said most days he just got wet and sandy with nothing to show for it. The hubcap at least has some story behind it, maybe from a classic car that broke down in the 70s. Have you ever tried metal detecting yourself?

Rented a metal detector once for a supposed ghost town site in Nevada. Spent eight hours finding bottle caps and a rusty hubcap from the 1970s. Makes you wonder if those YouTube videos are just showing the two good finds out of a hundred failures.
