A guy at the hardware store changed my mind about asking for help
I was stubbornly trying to pick a drill bit in Denver, and he just said, 'The right question saves an hour of work... what are you really trying to do?' Has anyone else had a simple piece of advice just click like that?

My buddy was trying to hang a shelf for like two hours, super frustrated. His wife finally walked in and just asked if he'd checked the wall for a stud. He hadn't. That one question fixed everything in five minutes. It's crazy how stuck we get in our own heads sometimes, just needing someone to point out the obvious thing we're missing.

Happened to me last week trying to mount a TV. Spent an hour fighting with drywall anchors before my roommate walked by and asked if I'd used a stud finder. Totally blanked on it. @paige166 is right, sometimes you just need that outside voice to snap you out of the tunnel vision.

Oh man, isn't it the worst? I once spent a whole afternoon trying to get a new doorknob to latch right. I was taking the whole thing apart over and over. My neighbor saw me through the screen door and just said, "Hey, is the strike plate on upside down?" I flipped it and it clicked right in. Felt like a total genius after all that.
