Dropped $400 on a meal kit subscription and regretted every bite
I signed up for a 4-person meal kit plan thinking it would save me time and money, but after 3 boxes I realized half the ingredients went bad before I could use them and the portions were tiny. Ended up throwing away about $150 worth of slimy veggies and unused sauces over 2 weeks. Has anyone else tried these services and felt like they were just paying extra for fancy packaging?

Did you actually follow the meal plan exactly as written, though? I've been using one of those services for about six months now and the only time I had issues with stuff going bad was when I'd skip a meal and let things sit too long in the fridge... The portions are supposed to be normal serving sizes, not restaurant portions which are way bigger than what most people actually need. Honestly, the cost breaks down to less than what I'd spend impulse buying takeout or grabbing random stuff at the store that I end up not using. Sounds like you might have just picked the wrong plan for your lifestyle or weren't staying on top of your cooking schedule.

Six months is a pretty good test run though.

Portion sizes on these services are actually closer to USDA recommendations than what most chain restaurants serve up. A lot of people don't realize that a standard serving of meat is like 3-4 ounces which is way smaller than the 8-10 ounce patty you get at a burger joint. The meal plan services are trying to hit actual nutritional guidelines, not the super sized portions you're used to seeing on TV or at restaurants.
