Found a way to fix my own phone screen for under $30

My iPhone screen cracked after I dropped it getting out of my car in the Target parking lot. Apple wanted $200 to fix it and I almost just paid it. I watched a few YouTube videos and bought a replacement kit from a local shop on Main Street. The hardest part was prying off the old screen without breaking the home button cable. Has anyone else tried fixing their own phone or is that asking for trouble?

The real issue nobody talks about is the waterproof seal. Once you crack that thing open, it's never the same. I did my own screen swap six months ago. Phone works fine but I'm terrified to use it in the rain now. Even with a new adhesive strip, the factory seal is just better. Dropped mine in a puddle last month and got moisture under the camera lens. Had to buy a rice bag trick that barely worked. So yeah, you saved money upfront but you might be gambling with water damage later. Just something to keep in mind before you celebrate too hard.

Oh man, that really sucks - I feel for you with the moisture under the camera thing. You put in all that work and it's like the phone just betrays you anyway, right? I've heard those adhesive strips are hit or miss depending on how careful you are with the application (and the phone design, honestly). That rice bag trick is such a gamble too - sometimes it works, sometimes it just makes everything worse.
