My aunt's blunt inquiry at dinner left me cringing inside

So at this family dinner last week, my aunt just goes and asks my cousin how much he makes at his new job. Everyone kind of laughed it off, like it was no big deal, but I was sitting there thinking, wow, that's so invasive. I mean, in forums like this where we're all about asking anything, I get it, but there's a line, you know? It's not always cool to just blurt out personal stuff, even if others think it's funny. Just something I've been mulling over since then.

That blunt inquiry might just be her awkward way of showing she cares about your cousin's success.

Sometimes older folks see salary talk as a normal check-in, not an invasion. They link money directly to security and want to know you're okay. It comes from a good place, but man, it still puts you on the spot.

True, like @miaw50 said, it's often awkward caring. I see this everywhere now, people just overshare or ask too much, like it's a normal chat topic. Makes convos feel weirdly invasive sometimes.
