My backup camera blinked out at the worst possible moment in Austin

I was backing into a tight spot off South Congress last Tuesday when my backup camera just went black. Screen flickered once, then nothing but static, right as a cyclist came up behind me. I jammed the brake and jumped out to wave them around, feeling like an absolute fool. Turns out the wiring harness under the hatch had chafed through after 80,000 miles of jarring potholes. $150 later at a shop on Burnet Road, they replaced the whole thing in 40 minutes. I learned to do a quick walk-around before every backing maneuver now, just like they teach in CDL school. Has anyone else had a sensor or camera fail and had to go back to old-school mirrors full time?
