My dryer vent cleaning kit snapped inside the duct last weekend

Honestly, I was just trying to clear out some lint buildup in the basement. The brush head came off the rods about 8 feet in, right near a tight bend. Now I have a plastic piece stuck in there and no way to reach it without cutting into the flex pipe. Has anyone else had this happen and found a trick to fish it out without calling a pro?

Man, is it really that big of a deal? A little plastic piece in a dryer vent probably won't cause any real issues unless you're stuffing the whole thing with wet socks.

Honestly, @colethomas, a dryer fire can literally start from a single plastic piece melting and igniting lint buildup, that's not an exaggeration. I know a guy whose neighbor lost their entire garage because a cheap plastic vent cover warped and trapped heat against the wall. It's not about wet socks, it's about the heat cycling through that plastic and turning it into a fuse for the lint dust inside. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has like a thousand reports each year from this exact issue, people just don't see it until it's too late. Tbh, I'd rather spend $15 on a metal vent than risk my whole house going up because of a little piece of plastic.

Isn't it funny how we always assume a little shortcut won't cost us until the whole house is on fire?
