My fridge died mid-July and the repair guy wanted $400 just to look at it

Last Tuesday around 3 PM I heard this weird click from the kitchen and then nothing. The freezer was sweating and the milk went warm in like 4 hours. I looked up the error code online and found a forum post about the defrost timer being stuck. So I pulled the panel off the back with a butter knife and sure enough the little plastic gear was cracked. $8 part on Amazon and a 20 minute swap later and the fridge is humming again. Has anyone else had luck fixing appliances with just a forum post and some patience?

Tried the same thing with some overripe bananas and heavy cream. Threw it in a container with a little sugar, shook it up every hour for a few hours. Came out like a really soft banana ice cream, honestly better than I expected.
