Rant: My neighbor told me to stop watering my lawn and he was dead wrong

Guy next door said I was wasting water on my St. Augustine grass last July during that dry spell in Phoenix. He claimed it would go dormant and bounce back fine. I listened to him for 3 weeks and my whole front yard turned brown with dead patches. Took me $200 in sod and two full Saturdays to fix it. Has anyone else had a know-it-all neighbor give terrible landscaping advice?

Spent the whole time reading this with my jaw on the floor. Who tells a Phoenix homeowner in July that St. Augustine will just bounce back from a drought? That grass needs water like a fish needs water, it's not Bermuda. I honestly can't believe someone would give that advice with a straight face, especially when they're looking at your dead yard right after. Did you ever figure out if your neighbor has a lawn that actually survives things like this, or does he just talk big?

Nah, his lawn's mostly rocks and gravel, not gonna lie...
