Serious question, why do we all pretend we're fine with group projects when one person does nothing?

I heard a guy in my Tuesday night class at the community college in Dayton say he just does the whole project himself because fighting about it takes longer. That is a real quote and it made me mad because he is right that the fight is worse than the work. We act like group work teaches teamwork but mostly it teaches the responsible person to shut up and carry everybody. How many of you have just eaten the extra work to avoid the drama?
